Department of Energy and Climate Change Announces Cuts to Feed in Tariff By 50% (31st Oct 2011)

How the new changes affect Free Solar and Purchased systems

On Monday 31st October the Government announced that the Feed in Tariff for Solar PV will be slashed by 50%, which means that by 12th December, all current Free Solar schemes will no longer be possible. For customers purchasing their own system, the Feed in Tariff payments will be slashed by 50% from the 1st of April.

Whether you choose a cash system or free system, you must act now to secure the full benefit of the current Feed in Tariff, which will still be guaranteed for 25 years at the higher rate.

Can I Still Get Free Solar?

Yes. If you are a new customer, you will need to act very quickly to book your solar survey and complete the paperwork before the deadline. Please check that you and your property meeting our free solar criteria, and then contact us by email or phone.

What if I Have Already Applied?

If you have already applied for free solar with us, it is important that you check all paperwork thoroughly and send back any information or documents that have been requested. If you have not receivedyour Solar Lease Agreement, please ring our Customer Care team on 0121 458 5600.

I Already Have Free Solar, Will the New Changes Affect Me?

No, if you have had free solar installed already the new changes will not affect you.

Will There Be a Free Solar Scheme After 12Th December?

My Energy Station is working hard with its partners in the solar industry to continue to provide a free solar option after 12th December. It is likely that any new free solar scheme will have different criteria to the current offer – which means that many people who qualify at present will not be suitable for the new scheme.

What if I Want to Purchase a System?

The Feed in Tariff payments for cash systems will drop from 43.3p to just 21p – making average payback periods around 18 years. If you book a system with us now, we can still supply and install before the deadline – giving you the full benefit of the highest Feed in Tariff rate, guaranteed for the next 25 years.
